In Progress

"OncoGeiger" is a collaborative project with NY artist Luke Murphy and cancer patients enrolled in the WellFit program at the University of Waterloo. Using a Geiger counter hardwired to a computer, "OncoGeiger" detects the residual radiation of cancer patients and transforms it into commands that pull images and texts out of a database and onto a large-screen display. The images and texts will be provided by the patients themselves as a form of therapeutic self-expression. This project is based on health science research into the use of art therapy and expressive writing to ease the emotional and physical side-effects of invasive cancer treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy.
